BDO British Open makes it Three Majors in a row for Gary Anderson
Written by BDO Tuesday,25 September 2007

Following his latest triumph in the BDO British Open, Scotland’s  GARY ANDERSON is in seemingly unstoppable form - having won three major darts titles in succession over a six month period in 2007.

He was crowned Topic International Darts League Champion in May, and has now won both the Bullit World Darts Trophy and BDO British Open in September.

The player nicknamed ‘Dreamboy’ is certainly living the darts dream, and these victories, plus the Scottish Open and Portland Open titles this year, confirm his position as WDF and BDO World No.1.

He lost the opening leg in his Semi-Final against England’s Brian ‘Pecker’ Woods, but then took the next four on the spin to win the match 2-0 in sets.

Both players hit 180’s in a keenly contested Semi-Final.

Meanwhile another Scot, John ‘Hendo’ Henderson was showing the sort of from that got him to Lakeside in 2005.  He took on a very confident Ted Hankey, who hit 180 with his first three darts on the way to winning the opening leg!

But, despite the fact that Ted hit another 180 (John also had one of his own) and produced the game’s highest checkout of 136, it wasn’t enough for ‘The Count’ as he lost both closely contested sets 2-1 in a thrilling encounter.

This produced an all Scots final, as the in-form World No.1 Gary Anderson, took on the very popular John Henderson.

And it was Hendo who took the first leg with a 66 checkout, but with the aid of a couple of 180’s, Gary took the next two legs to go 1 set up.  His third 180 came in the first leg of the 2nd set and with superb darts he eventually wrapped up victory with a crowd-pleasing 114 checkout.

The Women’s Singles final started with two opening legs that both went with the darts and finished on double-11. The in-form Dee Bateman, fresh from victory in the Turunc Open in Turkey had played well all day and, following a 3-0 victory in the Semi-Finals against Apylee Jones (winner of the Women’s Pairs with Heather Busby) must have fancied her chances of back-to-back titles.

But, the always impressive Anastasia broke to make it 2-1 and despite an excellent 180 from Dee, the Russian star went on to wrap-up her latest title with a 3-1 scoreline.

Anastasia has now completed a BDO ‘double’ this year by winning both the BDO England and British Open titles.

The Men’s Pairs Champions were EDWIN MAX and MARIO ROBBE (Netherlands) and the Women’s Pairs Champions were APYLEE JONES and HEATHER BUSBY (England).
